YOUR CONTRIBUTION

You will be responsible for using your extensive domain knowledge to extract, cleanse, process, load, and automate data collection from multiple sources and amalgamate them into a single repository to provide the business intelligence required to support business strategy and initiatives. Alongside this primary function, the role will also be responsible for the duties required of a senior data analyst – seeking to conceptualise problems, acquiring information, documenting definitions an d business processes, build business intelligence tools and draw meaningful insights from data through considered data analysis.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work in the development of data engineering solutions using Microsoft SQL Server tools, R and/or Python to enable the effective extraction, cleansing, transformation, and loading of data sets from multiple sources into a central data warehouse;
  • Build and maintain data pipelines;
  • Influence data warehouse and database design from inception and architecture through to delivery;
  • Develop and maintain data documentation: data maps, data dictionaries, data lineage, etc.;
  • Assume data governance ownership for the data warehouse;
  • Apply data analytics on information received from multiple sources to identify insights, integrate information, design standard reporting, and provide high quality intelligence/analytical reports that positively affects decision making;
  • Maintain strong working relationships with key business stakeholders to ensure information needs can be met in a timely, collaborative and professional manner;
  • Work with autonomy and as part of a team including planning what is required to meet objectives, collaborating, asking for help where required and resolving complex issues;
  • Collaboratively and extensively investigate, analyse and interpret information based on a strong understanding of business processes, drivers and priorities;
  • Acquire information from multiple sources, assess the quality, viability and accuracy of sources for solving particular problems;
  • Educate stakeholders at all levels on the importance of data and information, including ensuring outputs and their components are well understood by the business;
  • Design, develop and deliver a broad range of business intelligence products, founded on accurate requirement analysis, consultation with business users and sound testing and user validation;
  • Deliver superior customer service and adhere to agreed time frames;
  • Proactively identify areas of improvement within the business to meet current and emerging business needs and implement initiatives within the team to address priority improvements;
  • Provide support to stakeholders on self-service tools by understanding the self-service datasets and educating stakeholders on the capability of self-service tools and promoting their use;
  • Play a leadership and mentoring role within the team.

ABOUT YOU

You will need to have at least 3-5 years in a data engineering role or equivalent, with extensive experience as a database developer and proven ability working with large databases in complex environments. You will be proficient with all if not most of the following tools and languages (or equivalent): SQL, Microsoft SQL Server suite (SSMS, SSRS, etc.), Power BI, R and/or Python.

Essential experience:

  • Strong knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing, database design methodologies, master data management principles and development of data flows;
  • Experience in database and data warehouse architecture and design;
  • Experience in working with APIs;
  • Experience with ETL and ETL processes and tools;
  • SQL Server and the Microsoft suite of software (SSMS, SSRS, etc.);
  • SQL programming experience is essential;
  • Experience in analysing different type of datasets and generating insightful information;
  • Experience with business intelligence and data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau or Qlik) is beneficial but not essential;
  • Good thinking skills, combined with the ability to present your beliefs in a clear and compelling manner both verbally and in writing;
  • Innovative and analytical mind with problem-solving capability;
  • Manage stakeholder expectations in terms of deliverable;
  • Attention to detail, maintaining high accuracy and timeliness in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work well under pressure;
  • Time management and organisational skills, which deliver the greatest value to the business

Although not essential, experience working with cloud infrastructures (Azure, AWS, etc) would be an advantage.
