About the Multicultural Child and Family Program (MCFP)

SSI delivers a specialist culturally responsive permanency support program in Sydney with a satellite service in Newcastle. The Program’s service models include family preservation, multicultural foster care, restoration and other out-of-home care services through a culturally responsive practice framework prioritising services for children and young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds aged 0–18 years. The prog ram is committed to keeping children and young people safe, in stable homes, connected to family, community and culture.

About the role and responsibilities

This is a brand-new role within our program and we are looking for a passionate and adaptable self-starter to join our fabulous team in Bankstown next year.

The role has a strong focus on education, on-boarding, training and development activities with our foster Carers to support them provide the best possible care for the child or young person in their care. The successful candidate will develop, deliver and coordinate strategies, and professional development activities to assist carers learn and maintain their capabilities to meet their responsibilities, to feel connected and supported and to provide the best possible care that considers the child’s as well as their own needs.

The successful candidate will support, assess and guide Carers through core foster care training; that is child focused, trauma informed, strength based and culturally and linguistically responsive. You will work with other key MCFP team members including caseworkers and managers who support the child, their other family members and carers as well as key sector stakeholders advocating and/or delivering training for carers. You will be responsible for developing the MCFP carer training program resources which includes face to face training, coaching, online material and cultural peer support groups to identify common training needs as well as individualised support requirements.

About you

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills & experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Family Therapy or related discipline;
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in child protection and/or experience in working with the OOHC;
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment;
  • Well-developed analytical & organisational skills coupled with excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Experience in adult learning and training design with an ability to facilitate training and support groups for carers;
  • Ability to engage and work with groups of people, tailoring communication and negotiating strategies, and activities to suit a culturally and linguistically diverse communities;
  • Valid NSW drivers’ licence;
