Foodbank is Australia’s largest food rescue organisation, accounting for over 70% of food rescued in Australia.  Foodbank sources donated food from farmers, processors, manufacturers, markets and retailers, most of which would otherwise go to landfill as waste.

In Queensland, through the Foodbank Queensland (FBQ) warehouse and distribution facility at Morningside, food is redistributed directly through over 250 frontline charities, feeding over 200,000 disadvantaged Queenslanders each month, over 22% of whom are children, providing food for over 300 school breakfast programs.  FBQ rescues over 25 million meals with an estimated retail value of more than $80m.  Foodbank’s vision is for a Queensland without hunger, delivered through a mission to deliver the most food, to the most Queenslanders in need, in the most efficient and effective ways.

Reporting to the Foodbank Queensland CEO, the Head of Operations & Safety will take responsibility for leading the operational execution of the food receival and distribution warehouse, including improving operational performance; leading an operations team, including volunteers; supply chain and logistics; financial and budget control; property and asset management; and leading and promoting a safety culture.  The Head of Operations & Safety will also operate with the CEO and senior management team to ensure all aspects of FBQ’s operations are aligned with the agreed Strategic Plan.

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Head of Operations & Safety with strong transport, logistics or supply chain exposure, preferably in the food and grocery industry.  You will enjoy leading a team of staff, including volunteers, to achieve great outcomes as Foodbank Queensland implements digital transformation of systems and processes.  You will have a strong commitment to influencing a safety culture within the Operations team and across the broader organisation. You will be flexible and agile in your approach and enjoy a role that interfaces broadly with stakeholders.

As a key member of the deeply collegiate and synergised Senior Management Team, you will role model the organisation’s values and be deeply connected to purpose.  You will play a key role in devising and executing strategy and enjoy connecting with volunteers, member charities, donors and strategic stakeholders.

The impact of Foodbank on the lives of Queenslanders in need is unquestionable.  You will make a significant difference by supporting the CEO to lead a highly efficient and effective FBQ to deliver on strategic objectives.
