The Organisation

Coast Shelter provides accommodation and support programs for people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or escaping domestic and family violence on the Central Coast of NSW.  Operating for over 30 years, they have 10 shelters, which provide accommodation to over 200 men, women, families and youth every night.

Coast Shelter is widely recognised for the unique support offered which promotes inclusion, builds resilience and creates opportunities out of disadvantage. Through a dedicated team of over 80 staff and 200 volunteers, Coast Shelter also coordinate the provision of over 1,000 free meals every week.

In addition to overseeing existing and proposed social enterprises, Coast Shelter continues to have significant growth plans at the forefront of their strategy.

The Role
 
Based in Gosford, reporting to the operations manager, and working closely with service managers, you will be responsible for the design, development, implementation and care of evidence-based programs and practices that bridge the knowledge-to-practice gap within the homelessness and domestic family violence programs.

Your key activities within this role are:

  • Lead the development and design of evidence-based programs and practices
  • Oversee and manage the lifecycle of a number of exciting key, program and practice focused projects
  • Ensure quality and consistency of practice across all service delivery sites
  • Work within a clear client centered, trauma informed framework
  • Regulate program theory ensuring it is aligned with appropriate Practice Framework and embedded across the organisation
  • Collaborate with organisation to ensure staff participation and adherence to implementations

Skills Required
 
You have a background and passion for working with people in specialist services including homelessness, domestic and family violence services for women and children, youth or men’s services. You focus on working within a clear, client centered, trauma informed framework and have a demonstrated understanding of case management with assessment frameworks related to child protection, parenting and family work, family violence, mental health and drug and alcohol issues.

It is also important that you:

  • Have a strong knowledge of current evidence-based practice, program theories of change, policies, legislation and trends relevant to domestic/family violence issues.
  • Possess excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills along with the ability to impart knowledge to others
  • Advanced understanding of child protection issues and client vulnerabilities such as drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, mental health issues, and the impact of trauma and the effect on child behaviour and development
  • Demonstrated ability to support practice development, including small-group facilitation, supervision and coaching skills
  • Experience implementing evidence-based practices and programs
  • Proven ability to design, adapt, and support the systematic application of practices and programs
  • Experience and/or ability in project and program management, service design and evaluation

Compliance checking will include Police Clearance and Working with Children (WWCC).
