The Role

You will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities and responsibilities for the AEU Federal Office, under the direction of the federal secretary and relevant elected bodies of the Union, who have responsibility for ensuring the AEU is administered according to the principles of sound financial management and good governance. This role is also responsible for the effective operation of a small finance unit and working closely with other workgroups in the federal office and leadership.

Your duties will include;

  • Ensure that the practices of the finance unit are consistent with the vision and governance requirements
  • Assist in developing & implementing the financial strategy & coordinate audit, accounts payable and payroll
  • Prepare the budget, review, & provide performance, reconciliations, end of month/year reports and rollover
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting to maximise interest earnings
  • Prepare the financial & other reports for the Registered Organisations Commission (ROC), AEC, ATO and regulatory bodies
  • Accounts administration for International trust fund.

Skills Required

You have managed the financial performance of organisations providing multiple programs or services and able to demonstrate the ability to plan, prioritise and achieve performance goals. With relevant tertiary qualifications, ideally CPA, you’re able to design and implement user-friendly systems. Your experience includes working very closely with internal and external clients with highly developed oral and written communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Specifically you will have the;

  • Experience in Attache, Superannuation Clearing House and Single Touch Payroll software and Internet banking
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and develop staff in undertaking finance work
  • Ability and experience to review a finance operation and develop strategies to improve effectiveness.
