About the role

The NTEU (Queensland Division) is seeking to employ a full-time Industrial Officer to be based primarily at the Queensland Division Office in Taringa. The position involves regular travel to all Queensland campuses.

This is a full-time, permanent position.

The NTEU is a federally registered membership-led union with coverage of academic and general staff in higher education. The NTEU represents workers in all Queensland universities and their associated
student organisations, research institutes and companies. The NTEU strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander peoples. The NTEU has a longstanding A&TSI

DUTIES INCLUDE:
Negotiating collective agreements; advocacy before industrial tribunals and internal university tribunals; negotiating with higher education managements on individual and collective cases and disputes; providing members with industrial advice and training, and coordinating with organising campaigns.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent; experience in the trade union movement and commitment to trade union principles; demonstrated experience in advocacy before tribunals; demonstrated experience in negotiating agreements; campaign skills (including a demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the principles of organising); excellent communication skills; and a current drivers licence.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:
Knowledge of the higher education industry; and basic word processing skills.

SALARY:
The salary range is as per NTEU National Staff Agreement Level 7 ($109,277 – $120,649 pa), depending on the applicant’s level of experience. Employer superannuation contributions of 17% are paid in addition to salary.
