About the role
Autism Queensland is in a key growth phase, almost doubling its employee base and gross income over the last 5 years (currently around $33million per annum). Motivated by substantial unmet need for autism-specific services and organisational benefits derived from scale, Autism Queensland has projects to expand the range, depth and locations of its service delivery, its facilities and organisational infrastructure ongoing and in the pipeline.
Within this context, the Board Chair is expected to provide strong leadership and ensure the Autism Queensland Board collectively fulfils its responsibilities to deliver on its growth strategy and mission, to partner with people on the autism spectrum, their families and communities to remove barriers and realise potential.
Role requirements:
- Eight years or more experience as a Board Director, service on multiple Boards and substantial experience as Chair of a Board, ideally in medium to large scale for-purpose organisations and/or for-profit disability and community service providers.
- Working knowledge of the Disability and/or Education sectors and an understanding of the basic framework of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic business development and contribution to organisational growth, ideally including property acquisition and development, strategic partnering, and responding to and supporting teams through change.
Alignment with Autism Queensland’s Vision and Values will be key, along with a personal commitment to invest in its Mission as a volunteer Director, noting the time commitment expected of the Board Chair is the equivalent of 4-5 days per month. Lived experience of autism will be highly regarded.
