About the role

Join the Compassion executive leadership team and be part of bringing hope to children around the world. Compassion is a Christian international holistic child development organisation with more than two million children currently a part of Compassion’s programs. Compassion’s response to poverty is different, focusing on one child at a time and building long term relationships between children and their local church family, showing them a hope more powerful than poverty.  

Compassion Australia has over 150 committed team members and many more volunteers who are committed to the mission of seeing children released from poverty in Jesus’ name. The organisation is based in Newcastle, NSW, with offices across Australia. Compassion Australia’s CEO Clare Steele, alongside a team of Executive Directors, are responsible for leading an ambitious four year strategy to see even more children released from poverty. Currently, three Executive Director vacancies exist, namely the Executive Director Supporter Experience, Executive Director People & Culture and Executive Director Strategic Partnerships. These roles have been created as part of the formation of a newly formed executive team. Compassion seeks high calibre executives for these three critical roles, with each serving as members of Compassion’s Executive Team.

The Executive Director: Supporter Experience provides supportive and strategic leadership to the Supporter Experience department. The Executive Director: Supporter Experience leads the department as they create compelling brand aligned experiences for new and existing supporters, sparking engagement, impact and action in the mission of releasing children from poverty. Working closely with the Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships and our internal brand agency they are responsible for delivering our brand promise of being known, loved and connected.

The Executive Director: Strategic Partnerships provides supportive and strategic leadership to the Strategic Partnerships department. The Executive Director Strategic Partnerships leads the department as they build relationships and inspire and equip Compassion Australia’s local partners to advocate for children in poverty. The department builds and cultivates partnerships with churches, supporters, businesses, influencers and ambassadors. Working closely with the Executive Director of Supporter Experience and our internal brand agency they are responsible for delivering our brand promise of being known, loved and connected.

The Executive Director: People & Culture provides strategic and supportive leadership to the People & Culture Department. The Executive Director of People & Culture builds people strategies that align with Compassion’s values, brand and strategy. This role leads a department which builds a high performing, flourishing team, that collaboratively works together to further the mission.

These roles will use your skills, leadership capability and talent for a purpose. One that changes lives, restores hope and transforms communities. All three roles require exceptional individuals who can bring about growth through outstanding people leadership, communication and innovation. The roles will focus on building a healthy team culture and achieving increased organisational performance.   Critical analysis, effective decision making, public speaking and the ability to lead organisational change will be essential to leading a diverse, national team. An in depth knowledge of the Australian Christian and not-for-profit landscape and the ability to travel nationally and internationally are required.

All three roles are based in Newcastle but can be performed from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane or other locations in the eastern states but please note the role requires 2-3 days per month in Newcastle, once travel is permitted.
