About the organisation
The Anglican Diocese of Newcastle (Newcastle Anglican) is the overarching body for some well-known Hunter and Central Coast organisations. The Anglican Diocese of Newcastle is located in the state of New South Wales and extends along the coast of the state from Woy Woy to Laurieton and inland to Merriwa and Murrurundi. The cathedral church of the diocese is Christ Church Cathedral in Newcastle. The Diocese serves this geographical region through its 59 parishes, four schools, Samaritans, Anglican Care, Anglican Savings and Development Fund and a number of chaplaincies. They minister people in rural, regional and city areas.
The social welfare arm of the diocese, Samaritans employs staff in areas of disability, youth, children’s and community services. There are many volunteers, many of whom are parishioners, assisting with emergency relief and recycling programs. Anglican Care, aged care services for residents and in the community.
The diocese has four schools – Manning Valley Anglican College, Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College, Scone Grammar School and Lakes Grammar – An Anglican School. The Diocese has a special relationship with Newcastle Grammar School.
Newcastle Anglican is led by the Anglican Bishop of Newcastle. It employs over 2500 people and engages with over 10,000 people every week through its activities in many sectors and across all ages. With a combined budget of over $225 million it works in aged and disability care, child development and protection, community development, education, and Christian ministry. It is a large property owner through a trustee organisation and operates a religious charitable development fund.
About the role
- Lead strategic People & Culture initiatives across the organisation
- Develop a People plan that facilitates organisation-wide collaboration
- Ensure that staff outcomes align with core vision and values
The Executive Director People and Culture (EDPC) is a role with strategic influence that is critical in championing and driving Newcastle Anglican’s cultural and leadership transformation. Partnering with leaders across the organisation, the EDPC will lead, enable and facilitate People Leaders and employees to develop the skills and mindsets needed to deliver on our organisational strategy and support individual development needs.
Experience, knowledge & skills
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Post graduate qualification in Management or Business
- Demonstrated Executive level experience with large-scale organisational culture change efforts in diverse and complex organisations with a transformation context.
- Experience in developing a high-quality strategic plan and a demonstrated capability in the effective implementation of strategic and operational plans
- Demonstrated experience in building teams, managing people and facilitating a productive and positive organisational culture
- Strength in data/people analytics and responding with relevant action planning.
- Ability to think strategically
- Demonstrated inspiring and visionary leadership style that will motivate varied stakeholders based on trust and transparency
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong and effective relationships with employees, volunteers and other stakeholders
- Good organisational and project management skills
- Commercial and/or business competence
- High level attention to detail and focus on risk management
- Experience in contract management and/or operating in a regulated environment
- Demonstrated interest in the community and social outcomes and an alignment to the mission of the Diocese.
- Experience dealing with multi-faceted organisations
- Exposure to Governance Frameworks and interactions with Boards and Committees
