The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (NSW JBD) is the representative peak-body of the NSW Jewish community. It leads, speaks and advocates on behalf of its community with 56 major communal organisations as its constituents. 

The NSW JBD aims to ensure NSW remains a safe and inclusive place for all and supports the continuation of a vibrant NSW Jewish community through policy, advocacy and community projects. 

About the role

Role Overview

Lead and manage the Public Affairs team to strengthen the relationship between the NSW JBD and its stakeholders. The Head of Public Affairs is responsible for the development and implementation of the NSW JBD’s communications and stakeholder engagement strategies. The role ensures targeted, proactive engagement across government, civil society and other stakeholders and is responsible for developing targeted, consistent and impactful messaging to advocate on behalf of the NSW Jewish and interfaith community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and leverage extensive stakeholder networks.
  • Manage the development of strategic communications materials.
  • Lead crisis communications activities and other targeted campaigns.
  • Support, lead and coach the CEO and key executives to undertake media appearances.
  • Develop and assess the effectiveness of the organisation’s communications strategy.
  • Work closely with the Head of Engagement to identify and maximise partnership opportunities with other ethnic and cultural groups.
  • Redefine and redevelop the NSW JBD’s brand.
  • Develop and implement the NSW JBD’s website strategy.
  • Support the growth of the NSW JBD’s memberships.
  • Increase community awareness of the NSW JBD.
  • Lead and host various large-scale and other regular events.
  • Manage CRM and other marketing and communications tools and systems.
  • Ensure the alignment of key messages across the Jewish community and other community/interfaith/minority groups.
  • Lead the Public Affairs team (three direct reports).

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • 5 years’ experience or more in relevant roles.
  • Tertiary qualifications – Bachelor level or higher.
  • Government, political and/or community relations experience is favourable.
  • Understanding of the Jewish faith, Israel and issues facing the Jewish community in NSW.

Additional Information

The NSW JBD provides flexible working arrangements (work from home opportunities two days per week) and generous leave arrangements over Jewish religious holidays. This role does involve attendance at out of hours and/or offsite events and meetings from time to time.
