About Multicultural Australia   

Multicultural Australia is a leading Queensland multicultural organisation, providing settlement services for migrants, refugees and people seeking asylum. We aim to grow multicultural values across our State and to empower newly arrived Queenslanders from diverse cultural and language backgrounds through advocacy, community development and a range of client services.

About the role:

Multicultural Australia is currently offering an opportunity for a Research & Advocacy Manager to work as part of our Office of the CEO.

The Research & Advocacy Manager is responsible for understanding, analysing and coordinating research that helps Multicultural Australia to develop and support a research, advocacy and evidence-based service delivery agenda including maintaining strong relationships with external research and advocacy partners. Having a strong background across evidence-based research projects, the Research & Advocacy Manager will provide advice to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and ensure they are well-placed to lead Multicultural Australia in delivering on its commitment to innovation, best practice and being fit for the future.

Among other duties, the successful candidate will:

  • Track local, regional and national legislative and policy issues in the multicultural sector and develop strategies to keep the Board, CEO, staff and community informed;
  • Lead Multicultural Australia’s development and submissions to public inquiries and reviews and undertake written work including preparation of reports, submissions policy papers and presentations as required, all based on sound evidence;
  • Develop strong relationships with external research and advocacy partners as well as community groups;
  • Assist in building organisational capacity to respond to key policy, systems, community and individual issues impacting migrant communities supported by Multicultural Australia
  • Develop a program of work to meet the policy, research and advocacy needs of Multicultural Australia, for endorsement by the CEO and ELT;
  • Advise the CEO and ELT on external research requests and research ethics issues
  • Promote the inclusion of client voice in service delivery design at Multicultural Australia and to support policy advocacy external to Multicultural Australia;
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to the Advocacy & Policy Officer and support with oversight of internal and external research projects.

What qualifications and skills do I need?

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have effective communication and interpersonal skills. As well as having a confident and positive personality, you will possess:

  • Bachelor level qualification in Business, Social Research & Policy, Community Development, Health or Public Policy, or other related field;
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills to identify problems and solutions in a range of policy and advocacy environments;
  • Knowledge of policy, legislative or political processes as they relate to the multicultural sector;
  • Working knowledge/understanding of government decision making processes, formal and informal;
  • Experience with Results Based Accountability Frameworks.

Successful candidate will be required to have a valid driver’s license, police check and Working with Children Blue Card. It is a condition of employment with Multicultural Australia to fulfil all our current and future COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
