Guide Dogs NSW/ACT is one of Australia’s most trusted charities with a long history of providing services to clients who have low vision or blindness to promote their independence.

The Disability Inclusion Advisor is a new role, working part-time 21 hours per week, that will drive the disability inclusion agenda within Guide Dogs and will coordinate the development and implementation of our Disability Inclusion Action Plan. This role may be located in any of our offices across NSW and the ACT.

This position will influence change; strengthen our internal capacity to operationalise disability equity, inclusion and access; and ensure our organisation embraces the value of a diverse workforce inclusive of our customers and supporters.

 Some of your areas of responsibility:

  • Coordinate and oversee the Disability Inclusion Action Plan Steering Committee, schedule regular meetings, set agendas, and follow up action items.
  • Work with key internal stakeholders and champions to coordinate, track progress and ensure timely delivery of goals.
  • Embed structure, policies, practices and programs within Guide Dogs to ensure equity, inclusion and access is sustainable and self-sufficient.
  • Lead the monitoring of progress and reporting on the Disability Inclusion Action Plan, and ensure any key areas of risk, progress and outcomes are communicated effectively.
  • Deliver an agreed communications plan to ensure all employees and stakeholders are kept up to date with progress and developments relating to the Disability Inclusion Action Plan.
  • Assist Leaders and employees to achieve inclusive and accessible reach and communications with people with disabilities.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practice in access and inclusion.
  • Research solutions to address workplace needs.

 About you:

  • You will have lived experience of disability.
  • Prior work experience and developed knowledge of the issues relevant to people living with various disabilities and the best practice frameworks to address these needs.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good consulting, negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Highly organised, flexibly adaptable and able to prioritise effectively.
  • Well-developed computer literacy, including aptitude in the MS Office suite (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Positive, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborative with peers, coupled with relationship management skills and influencing skills.
