About the role

Frontier Services, a national agency of the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) and Australia’s oldest bush charity, provides funding and resources for pastoral support through an extensive network of Bush Chaplains and Outback Links volunteers to lend a helping hand in rural and remote Australia.

We are a not-for-profit registered charity, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our skillsbased Board oversees the governance of Frontier Services and draws on the expertise and insights of a diverse and inclusive group to achieve its strategic priorities. The Board collectively determines Frontier Service’s culture through its values by establishing high ethical standards and sets the risk appetite to protect and enhance the delivery of programs, fundraising and overall performance.

Frontier Services is seeking applications from individuals who have a commitment to excellence and a desire to contribute to effective governance. Successful applicants will bring alignment with the purpose of the organisation and have capacity to devote time and energy to the position of a Board Director.

We are looking for up to three new members to join the team this year. Skills in governance and strategy are vital, but we are also looking for a rich diversity in life experience. Current Board vacancies include Members with skills in areas of finance, law, fundraising, marketing, technology, as well as people with lived experience of rural/remote Australia and/or First Nations People.

As this is a volunteer position, members are not remunerated but associated expenses may be covered.

The Frontier Services Board has determined that applications should meet one or more of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Experience in Accounting and Finance at a Senior/Executive level
  • Experience in Fundraising/Marketing at a Senior/Executive level
  • Experience in Technology/Technology Consulting at a Senior/Executive level
  • A record of participation in the non-government sector at a leadership level or above

In addition, successful applicants should possess one or more of the following general skills, competencies and/or experience;

  • Lived experience and/or representative of the following demographic groups; Ministers of the Church, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, live rurally/regionally, or from a culturally and linguistically diverse background
  • Leadership, vision and ability to champion Frontier Services vision.
  • An understanding of the principles and practices of effective corporate governance including strategic planning and direction setting
  • Experience in developing strategy and building new fundraising sources
  • Experience in building partnerships, both corporate and government
