Geelong Gallery was established in 1896 and is one of Australia’s leading art galleries, with a magnificent collection of Australian and European painting, sculpture, printmaking and decorative arts dating from the 18th century to today. The Gallery’s outstanding collection includes many works of national significance such as Eugène von Guérard’s View of Geelong 1856, and Frederick McCubbin’s A bush burial 1890. One particular focus of the collection is early images of the Geelong region, documenting the evolution of this important city and its environment.

About the role
The Geelong Gallery’s Commercial Operations unit comprise of Visitor Services, the Volunteer Program, Retail, Fundraising/Membership and Events. Commercial Operations are integrated with all other aspects of the Gallery, including its exhibitions and collection, education and public
programs, marketing and communications and the Geelong Gallery Foundation.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, the specific focus of the Retail Manager position is to ensure that the Gallery shop exceeds expectations of all visitors and patrons. The manager will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the shop and motivating the staff and volunteers to provide exceptional customer service. The Gallery Retail Manager will also be responsible for the financial performance of our retail space including monthly reporting, inventory management, buying and ordering. The Retail Manager will also work directly with the Deputy Director on all marketing campaigns and merchandising opportunities. Also part of our Visitor Services team, the Retail Manager will play a role in creating an exceptional retail visitor experience with key points of difference to other retail outlets in Geelong. The Retail Manager will ensure visitor satisfaction through the delivery of high-quality, pro-active customer service to physical, telephone and online visitors; and, will assist the Visitor Services Manager to meet the Gallery’s Service Mission and the organisation’s visitor expectations with back-up support as required.
The Retail Manager position is a multitasking role operating in a flexible team environment.
