Who we are

Social Ventures Australia (SVA) is Australia’s most innovative social impact organisation. We use our broad outlook, transformational thinking, and trusted voice to lead the charge against inequality in Australia.

We were created 20 years ago to find innovative solutions to entrenched social problems and accelerate the rate of positive change. We help institutions think differently, we help redesign systems by learning about what works in communities, and we work hand-in-hand with our passionate partners to take real action and drive positive social change.

This position will support SVA’s vision by connecting social-purpose organisations that need capital to grow their impact with suitable funding and advice. We are a pioneer and respected leader in the social finance sector.

Over more than a decade, SVA has developed and launched 8 Social Impact Bonds (SIBs), of which 5 are currently operational, with a sixth under development. In addition, the team provides advisory support to governments and service providers as they explore and implement outcome-based contracting models.

We have also incubated, established, and managed a range of funds with varying mandates, including the $15m Diversified Impact Fund, the $90m+ Social Impact Investment Trust and the $600m Synergis Fund.

The position

The Director Funds Advisory is responsible for the continued evolution of SVA’s work to create greater impact across the social impact investing sector. With exposure to a wide variety of opportunities and sectors, this role involves a unique balance between strategic development, advisory/consulting work, and relationship management. This includes:

  • Leading the strategic direction of the practice, leveraging SVA’s extensive expertise and strong reputation to create greater impact across the sector.
  • Leading key strategic funds structuring advisory projects, advisory engagements and ensure the delivery of high-quality funds advisory services.
  • Identifying new opportunities to provide funds advisory support, suitable partners, and programs for new initiatives.
  • Establishing and maintaining key relationships across governments, service providers and the investor base.

The Director Funds Advisory contributes to overall leadership of SVA’s social finance / impact investing practice, continually promoting and encouraging high quality work and outstanding performance. Furthermore, this role also works collaboratively across the broader SVA team, providing and leveraging expertise, thought leadership and advocacy.

Who you are

If you have a sound understanding of the Australian impact investing sector; informed perspectives and strong relationships across Australia’s social, impact investing or government sector; and/or extensive financial services experience, including the ability to structure funds, raise capital and manage investor and portfolio relationships, this is the role for you.

The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in negotiating complex arrangements and experience in transaction advisory services in banking, funds management, Chartered Accounting or Law, or senior advisory/consulting experience.

This role will give you a unique opportunity to join a leading organisation that is shaping the social impact investing landscape and a chance to make a real impact to changing social outcomes in Australia.

SVA values diversity and encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people of colour. We value people of all abilities and diversity of culture, faith, gender identity and sexual orientation. We welcome unique contributions and perspectives of all people to ensure our workforce is representative of the communities we work with and live in.

If you have the experience and knowledge we are looking for and are excited to join our team, please submit your CV (max 2 pages) and a statement (max 1 page) addressing the person requirements by midnight AEST 18 February.
