The St John National Office based in Deakin ACT has a relatively small team of professional staff that provide strategic and operational direction and support for: national training development and compliance; business enterprise systems; national product sourcing and distribution; and core functions relating to the Australian Priory of St John.

The National Brand and Communications function fosters stewardship of the brand in Australia, and promotes growth of communication and advocacy activities that progress the Australian Priory Strategic Framework. As part of a federated structure, we work collaboratively with our St John State and Territory entities, and a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. 

The backbone of St Ambulance in Australia is an extensive network of dedicated volunteers, staff and members (around 19,000 people) with a shared vocation of promoting physical and mental wellbeing.

St John Ambulance Australia is seeking a confident marketing all-rounder, with an interest in digital marketing, websites, social media and promotions. 

This position is based in our Australian Office in Deakin ACT within a small, growing team.

This is a busy creative-meets-operational role, with a broad mix of routine tasks and longer-term project and campaign-based activities that support the strategic priorities for the national brand and communications function.  

The right candidate will bring a mix of creativity, analytical thinking, planning skills and attention to detail – helping us to improve our internal processes and practices. They will work well under direction, in collaboration with others, and also independently.   

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and administrate marketing activities that support the national brand and communications function broadly. 
  2. Maintain St John Ambulance Australia’s website and digital channels through content development and coordination.  
  3. Maintain and strengthen St John Ambulance Australia’s social media presence – source and produce engaging copy and visuals, foster engagement, and administer platforms. 
  4. Maintain coordination of a suite of brand assets, marketing materials and organisational templates. 
  5. Contribute to marketing, advertising and promotional activities that support charitable and commercial priorities.
  6. Liaise with external suppliers e.g. creative agencies, designers, printers, advertising channels. 
  7. Other day-to-day administrative marketing-communications activities as required.

Selection Criteria (Essential): 

  1. Qualifications in Marketing, Business, Communications or related field. 
  2. Knowledge and experience across day-to-day marketing and communications activities 
  3. Knowledge and skills in contemporary digital and social media marketing.
  4. Well-developed computer and system literacy – ideally with experience using a website CMS, and ability to learn new platforms quickly.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and ability to develop creative and professional copy. 
  6. Excellent administration skills with attention to detail and adherence to deadlines. 
  7. Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills to liaise with a network of professional stakeholders.
  8. Ability to work both under direction and independently with a level of professional responsibility. 

Desirable (but not essential):

  1. Skills to design (produce) creative assets (e.g. experience with any design packages such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Video software). 
  2. Some understanding of advertising and promotional environments e.g. product/service marketing would be a bonus. 

Special Conditions:

  • This role may require occasional (infrequent) interstate travel to attend meetings or events.
  • Infrequent out-of-hours or over-time work may be required to meet deadline or attend events. Time in lieu may be approved. Ongoing over-time is not anticipated.
  • This position must be based in Canberra with availability to attend Australian Office in Deakin, with some allowance for reasonable work from home. 
  • The position is flexible at 0.8FTE and hours day/hours allocation may be negotiated depending on workflow and personal requirements. 
  • Applicants must have the right to work in Australia as a citizen or with full unrestricted work permit or visa.
  • A National Police Check is required to be obtained upon appointment to the role and every three years thereafter. 
  • Appointment to this position is subject to maintaining a valid Working with Children Check
