About the Team

 

The Queensland Multicultural Centre (QMC) is one of Brisbane’s iconic exhibition and events venues. Located beneath the Story Bridge on the historic Yungaba site. Opening in 2012, the purpose built facility was established to promote unity in our society and a sense of belonging for all. QMC offers a broad range of spaces to suit both community and corporate needs and welcomes the opportunity for people to celebrate and share their diversity through performance and arts.

 

QMC is managed by BEMAC, Queensland’s most dynamic producer of multicultural arts. BEMAC has been successfully staging productions that fuel the diverse practice of artists from a variety of cultural backgrounds for over three decades.

 

About You

 

The Venue & Business Development Manager is responsible for the management of all aspects of the venue and proactively manages the business operations, bookings, and development of the QMC through a strategic approach focused around growth, development and delivery. This position will manage the QMC Bookings and Functions Coordinator as well as handle hiring and management of event staff casual.

 

Responsibilities:

     * Effectively lead, manage and support all venue bookings, staff and venue assets, ensuring high accuracy of documentation such as rosters, quotes, invoices, contracts, runsheets and additional documentation as required, endeavouring to deliver a high level of successful events lead by a customer focussed approach.

     * Source and cultivate new partnerships and venue booking opportunities for BEMAC and the QMC – supporting multicultural arts & community events and seeking commercial users (when the venue is not utilised) in order to maximise QMC’s activities.

     * Ensure all aspects of the events comply with all licensing and statutory requirements, including WH&S, fire safety, liquor licensing, BCC food licensing and employment standards – maintaining a safe and positive experience for all users of the venue at all times

     * Manage and maintain effective record keeping of timesheets and payroll information in line with deadlines to ensure all entitlements can be processed within identified timeframes to ensure optimal service standards are achieved.

 

Essential Criteria

     * Tertiary qualifications in Business Management or similar and/or Tertiary qualifications or experience in Events Management or similar

     * Minimum 5 years’ experience in a venue management role, preferably within a similar venue and cultural sector

     * Exceptional high level of attention to detail for the overall management of multiple day-to-day bookings to ensure accurate quotes, contracts and invoicing to support the venue bookings & functions coordinator.

     * Demonstrated experience in robust financial management including, budget development, cash flow management, EOFY & EOM reporting, review and analysis to minimize business loss and identify opportunities for growth.

     * Demonstrated experience in diversifying venue revenue streams & strategies for increased economic business growth.

     * Demonstrated experience and strong knowledge of State Government legislation and local Council by laws compliance in relation to managing a venue. 

 

Essential Registrations

     * Fire Safety Adviser Certification

     * Approved Liquor Manager Certification

     * Current Open C Class Driver’s License

     * Current First Aid
