Firesticks is a not-for-profit Indigenous-led enterprise, registered as an Indigenous Corporation, supporting regional and community networks dedicated to revitalising and strengthening Indigenous led cultural fire and land management knowledge systems and practices across Australia.
We help activate learning, employment, and enterprise-related pathways and partnerships to protect, conserve, and enhance Indigenous culture and our natural systems through cultural fire and other areas of land management. About the role
About our Board:
Our majority Indigenous Board of Directors shapes our strategic direction and governance arrangements, oversees business and financial performance and ensures compliance with our statutory obligations. The Board invites expressions of interest from Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals who will complement and strengthen the team with their unique skills, qualities, and experience.
We seek passionate individuals with skills, qualifications, and/or proven experience in one or more of the following areas: organisational strategy, innovation, fundraising, governance, risk, legal and/or finance. An ideal candidate will also have a minimum of 2 years experience as a director or senior
leader in not-for-profit organisations and possess the following qualities:
- A commitment or strong alignment to Firesticks’ vision
- Is prepared to be a member or lead a subcommittee on behalf of the Board
- A passion for Indigenous self-determination and innovation
- Is pragmatic, solution-focused, collaborative and a critical thinker.
Our Board of Directors is a team of dedicated volunteers who meet formally four times per year, with occasional out-of-session and subcommittee meetings. Reasonable meeting related expenses and training and development opportunities will be covered.
