About the organisation

Organisation Name : Australian Marine Conservation Society

The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is the voice for Australia’s oceans. We are Australia’s leading ocean conservation organisation and one of the founding members of Australia’s conservation movement. We are a community of ocean lovers across the nation working to protect our precious marine wildlife and for healthy seas.

We are an independent charity, staffed by a committed group of scientists, educators and passionate advocates who have defended Australia’s oceans since 1965. Our paid and volunteer staff work every day to protect our coasts and oceans.

About the role

AMCS is campaigning to prevent the expansion of offshore fossil fuel and carbon capture and storage (CCS).

Our oceans are being developed and exploited at an unsustainable rate. With offshore oil and gas exploration increasing this not only has direct impacts on marine wildlife and habitats, but also traps the community and the economy into continued dependence on fossil fuels, and locks us into catastrophic climate change.

We are seeking a communications professional experienced in campaign communications to work with our committed team of campaign and communications staff on one of AMCS’ most high-profile and fast-moving campaigns. This role will drive the design and delivery of effective communications strategies for our Oil and Gas campaign. With our oceans under more pressure from an expanding offshore fossil fuel sector, you will play a crucial role in shaping the public engagement in our campaign to protect our oceans and marine life from the harmful impacts of the fossil fuel industry.

THIS ROLE INVOLVES:
  • Developing and implement the communications strategy and plans to maximise the impact of the Oil & Gas campaign, ensuring these are aligned with AMCS’ campaign and communications objectives.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of the campaign’s communications activities, adjusting strategy and plans to maximise impact.
  • Developing and deliver campaign communications activities and materials.
  • Using communications strategies and tools available, work to grow and deepen the base of AMCS supporters engaging with the campaign.
  • Building strong relationships and networks, and work closely and collaboratively with campaign partners to grow the impact and influence of the campaign’s communications.

Please see the attached for a full position description and further details on the role including the selection criteria. For more information on AMCS’ Offshore Oil & Gas campaign see here.
