The organisation
Jabiru Community College (JCC), located in Zillmere, Brisbane, is a small, independent Big Picture school dedicated to offering flexible, inclusive, and personalised education for young people in years 10-12. With up to 85 students and 33 staff, the college is committed to incorporating First Nations ways of knowing, addressing racism, and creating a safe environment for our Queer community members. Guided by its five Rs: Respect, Relationships, Responsibilities, Rights, and Reflection; the college aims to build a safe and creative community where diversity is respected and appreciated.

The position
JCC is seeking two full-time Co-Principals who will share leading and managing the college, ensuring alignment with the college’s mission. In this role, your responsibilities include providing strategic educational leadership,
managing staff and resources, overseeing curriculum implementation,
and fostering a safe, inclusive school environment. You’ll collaborate with the
leadership team to uphold the college’s values and practices, engage with the broader community, and ensure the wellbeing of all students and staff. Your role is crucial in driving the College’s commitment to equity, diversity, and personalised education.

About you
To be successful in this role, you should have the following:

  • Experience of working directly with young people and their families who are highly marginalised, have complex needs and may be difficult to engage.
  • Proven track record of working in partnership with First Nations communities.
  • Strong collaborative leadership skills and the ability to respond positively and creatively to challenges within a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Patience and perseverance in creating a strengths-based culture and working across differences.
  • Strong emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate interpersonal conflicts, and lead a team that is inclusive of different backgrounds, ideas, identities, and ways of working.
  • One of the Co-Principals must hold registration as a Teacher by the QLD College of Teachers.
  • One of the Co-Principals could hold Qualifications in Human Services and/or extensive experience in human services.
