About the role
- Lead and supervise a dynamic Advocacy and Law Reform team.
- Facilitate access to justice for victims and survivors of child abuse.
- Full-Time opportunity, based in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of lawyers, social workers, financial counsellors and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Advisors, knowmore provide a wraparound service that begins at their Intake Team and continues as survivors tell their stories and step through the process of considering their options. knowmore has a strong focus on law reform and advocacy, working to improve laws and systems to better support all survivors.
In collaboration with knowmore’s CEO, executive team, and other key staff, the Advocacy and Law Reform Manager will identify key justice issues that align with knowmore’s impactful strategic aims. You will conduct comprehensive research, identifying opportunities to improve laws, policies and processes. You will advocate for change through amplifying survivor’s anecdotes of lived experience, engendering a strong commitment to a trauma informed and culturally safe work ethic. High level written communication skills will be important as you will draft authoritative law reform submissions and other materials, particularly in more complex matters, including contributing to articles for the media and legal and other publications and Community Legal Education materials.
You will develop and nurture productive working relationships, internally and throughout a network of community legal centres, community service sectors and government bodies, leveraging expertise to furthermore champion social justice. Reporting to the CEO, this national role will lead a small team; aligning accountabilities with desired outcomes, reporting on team responsibilities and supporting the team through mentorship and development initiatives.
About YOU
- High level policy analysis, development and implementation experience, including the capacity to identify strategic opportunities; develop ideas; plans and responses.
- Experience in leading and managing teams, including motivating, supervising and supporting staff.
- The capacity to develop a sound understanding of specific legal issues and relevant legislation across different areas of the
law and multiple jurisdictions. - Proven research and analysis skills and the ability to apply the outcomes in the development of practical solutions and
recommendations. - High level written communication skills, including the ability to prepare law reform submissions and reports.
- Oral communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships to
deliver project outcomes. - Cultural competency, with an understanding of issues affecting people from culturally diverse backgrounds, including
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. - A minimum of three years’ experience in legal practice and/or research and policy work after having completed a degree in
law or a similar field.
A competitive salary commensurate with the not-for-profit sector is offered together with the availability of salary packaging to achieve a tax effective total salary package. In addition to being a flexible workplace, knowmore offers 12% superannuation (0.5% above the SGC), a 37.5 hour working week and 5 weeks annual leave, including annual leave loading.
