The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is the voice for Australia’s oceans. We are Australia’s leading ocean conservation organisation and one of the founding members of Australia’s conservation movement. We are a community of ocean lovers across the nation working to protect our precious marine wildlife and for healthy seas.

We are an independent charity, staffed by a committed group of scientists, educators and passionate advocates who have defended Australia’s oceans since 1965. Our paid and volunteer staff work every day to protect our coasts and oceans.

About the role

The Administration Officer plays a key role in supporting the smooth day-to-day functioning of AMCS by providing high-quality administrative and logistical assistance across teams. Acting as the first point of contact for public and supporter enquiries, the role helps ensure professional and responsive interactions with stakeholders.

The position supports core operational functions, including office coordination, event and travel logistics, and general team administration. Through this work, the Administration Officer contributes to the effective functioning of AMCS and helps foster a positive, inclusive, and well-supported workplace culture.

This role involves:

  • Being the first point of contact for public and supporter enquiries, creating a warm and professional first impression. Respond to or redirect enquiries from the main AMCS email account and phone line.
  • Providing general admin support to the team, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, coordinating video calls, and following up on action items.
  • Assisting with planning and delivering events and activities across the organisation.
  • Providing backup support for operational finance tasks, such as processing transactions, performing reconciliations, and maintaining accurate record.
  • Supporting donor care by processing donations, issuing receipts, and responding to enquiries received through public enquiry channels.
  • Contributing to a positive workplace culture by supporting health and safety practices, ensuring compliance, and promoting wellbeing among staff and volunteers.

Please see the attached Position Description for further details on the role, including key responsibilities and selection criteria.
