Time required : You will be required to attend training every Monday evening at the Unit on Scotts Avenue, Castlemaine from 7.00pm to around 10:00pm. Of course, we then hope you are available to attend call out emergencies wherever possible depending on your role with us.

About the role
As an SES volunteer, you will support the community in times of emergencies and need. You will receive the training and support you need to carry out a range of activities such as:
- Responding to natural disasters – Floods, Storms, Tsunamis and Earthquakes
- Responding to emergencies – Land Search, Road Crash Rescues and more
- Working with the community to prepare for storms and minimise the risk of damage
- Provide support to other emergency services (search and rescue, casualty transport and recovery etc)
You can choose your role according to your abilities, interests, and what you are comfortable with.
By joining us you are able to gain skills with Nationally Accredited Training and get the opportunity to apply existing skills in a new environment. All of the roles available offer great personal satisfaction and give you the opportunity to meet new people, help others and to challenge yourself
About the organisation
Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is a volunteer-based organisation, providing emergency assistance to minimise the impact of emergencies and strengthen the community's capacity to plan, respond and recover, when emergencies occur. It also provides the largest Road Crash Rescue network in Australia.
Volunteer members of the Castlemaine SES Unit provide these services across Mount Alexander Shire. In the year to 28/2/2022 the unit responded to 244 requests for assistance of which 18 were rescues (mainly road crash rescues) and 24 were assisting other agencies (mostly assisting Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police).
