About the role

You are someone who wants to make an extraordinary contribution to people sleeping rough in our community.

The Outreach Program operates twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday nights (7.00pm – 8.30pm) where a group of volunteers walk along a fixed route in Melbourne’s CBD, directly engaging with people sleeping rough. The Outreach Program operates to provide people experiencing homelessness with friendship and support in a time when they are generally in greatest need of social and material assistance. This is in recognition of the fact that social isolation and a sense of disenfranchisement can proliferate amongst people on the streets.
300 Blankets has developed a high level of trust with people sleeping rough over the last 7 years where we are known as ‘the Blankets people’.

• Coordinate and liaise with the Volunteer Manager ahead of the night to confirm attendees and contact details;
• Coordinate the collection of material items from either of our storage facilities;

• Be at Flinders Street station by 7pm for the commencement of the night.

• Monitor safety and well-being of all volunteers throughout the course of the evening.
• Record the numbers of people encountered during an evening i.e. male and female.
• Report any unusual activities and/or updates and information garnered from conversations with people on the streets to inform the broader team and subsequent Night Leader.

• 1.5 hours per Outreach night.
• Minimum 1 Outreach night per month.
• 12 months.

We can offer you
• An organisation focused on volunteer wellbeing;
• An engaging and social team culture;
• Mandatory training including:
   o First Aid Training Level – HLTAID003.
