About the role

Soul Kitchen operates every Sunday night at Braybrook Community Hub (Braybrook) with a dedicated team of volunteers who not only prepare an amazingly nutritious dinner, but who also share this meal with those who may be struggling to make ends meet, or who may be feeling socially isolated. The people accessing this service range from singles, couples, people with disabilities, young families to the elderly. Soul Kitchen brings the local community together in a safe and respectful environment for anyone who wishes to socialise, share a meal, have a load of washing done, or get a haircut.

What you’ll do
As the Kitchen Leader you will be required to:

Prior to the Sunday:
• Have completed all stipulated Training Requirements (see below).
• Liaise with the Night Leader (and as required the Soul Kitchen Manager) to determine the menu for the evening as well as ingredients required for purchase.
• Liaise with the Volunteer Manager to coordinate and confirm collection of donated food for the evening.

On the Sunday:
• Participate in a Volunteer briefing at the start of the night where any issues from the previous week are discussed as well completion of introductions and inductions of any new volunteers.
• Identify Volunteers who would like to assist in the kitchen, ensuring they have completed the food hygiene training.
• Complete an induction of the kitchen area for any new volunteers.
• Coordinate and manage all kitchen Volunteers throughout the night.
• Liaise with the Night Leader for coordination of course service times and clean-ups throughout the night.
• Monitor wellbeing and OHS practices throughout the evening.
• Assist and support the Night Leader as required/requested.
• Manage and oversee the pack-up and cleaning of the kitchen.
• Participate in a de-briefing session at the end of the night.
• Communicate to Night Leader or Program Manager of any issues, as well as pantry inventory and items required for purchase for the subsequent week.

Commitment:
• Management of at least 12 nights across a 12-month period.
• 5 hours per Sunday night managed.
