About the organisation

Organisation name : Cultivating Community

Cultivating Community has 25 years of experience in developing and implementing projects with communities that are part of the public housing landscape. We are a non-profit organisation whose purpose is to inspire a healthy and just world. We are an accredited social trader and are actively developing social enterprise portfolios. Our Vision is for joyful and connected people who care for each other and our earth.

One large area of our work is as a service provider for DFFH to manage community gardens on public housing estates and in doing so support 720 people to grow their own food.  We deliver impactful school food garden programs by providing a dedicated weekly resource to schools to engage 500+ children in outdoor classrooms where they learn about growing food in sustainable ways.   Through our Community Food Centre programs we work collaboratively with many local NFPs, health centres and community networks to facilitate opportunities for low income communities to have access to and learn about good food.  We also support micro and social enterprise food businesses.  We have partnered with local councils to deliver on community garden programs and governance, community composting frameworks and food waste minimisation initiatives and are an active collaborator with Moving Feast.
