About the role

Do you love shopping and chatting to customers? Passionate about recycling? Or perhaps, looking for a way to connect with others or learn new skills? We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers at our brand new Elwood Op Shop to engage with the community. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to learn new skills, make new friends, gain confidence to improve career prospects, then come and join us.

**Position Objective:**
 
The Volunteer Retail Assistant helps raise funds to support Family Life’s services by assisting in the day to day operations of the Community Opportunity Shops.
 
The key responsibilities can include but are not limited to:
– Courteously accept donations from the public
– Provide exceptional customer service to members of the public
– Process payments for the sale of goods
– Sort and clean donations according to processes and procedures
– Replenish stock on the shop floor with merchandise as required
– Maintain a safe and clean working environment
– Demonstrate, understand and apply the Family Life principles

**Supervision:**
 
The Volunteer Retail Assistant operationally reports to the Store Manager, or their delegate, who is responsible for assigning daily tasks.
 
***Requirements:**
 
– 4 hours per week, days to suit (Monday to Sunday)
– Enthusiastic and team player
– Strong organisational skills
– Good communication skills and customer friendly attitude
– Punctual and reliable
– Retail experience preferred, but not necessary
– Ability to take initiative and know when to take direction
– Ability to work with people of a diverse background and with diverse needs
– Willing to obtain Working with Children check and undergo a police check (free to volunteers).
 
The Volunteer Retail Assistant will be required to undergo Family Life Induction. Additionally, a role and site induction with instruction on processes and procedures will be provided by the Store Manager, or their delegate, on the first day. You will be offered ongoing support to ensure you are comfortable and happy in your volunteer role.
