About the role
The Alamein Neighbourhood & Learning volunteer Committee of Management (CoM) provides strategic direction, governance support and oversight to Alamein in meeting its service delivery goals. The Committee works closely with the Manager who is responsible for implementing the strategic policy framework and managing day to day operations of the Centre, including supervision of team members.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend regular Committee of Management meetings; review meeting papers including agendas and minutes, the Manager’s report, background papers and monthly financial statements (circulated one week prior to the meeting); and participate in discussions pertaining to the meeting papers and other Centre matters.
- Provide direction in areas of expertise to support decision-making as required, including participation in relevant subcommittees.
- Participate in strategic planning and policy development for the organisation.
- Attend the ANLC AGM held in April and other events as appropriate.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES
We are seeking capable and dedicated committee members to represent our local community, offer a range of experiences and ideas, and help us to meet community needs and expectations.
In addition to individuals with a community focus, we would value the following skill sets:
- Qualifications and experience in human resource management
- Qualifications and or experience in adult education or community development
- Legal qualifications and experience
- Risk management and OH&S experience
- Previous involvement with a community-based or not-for-profit organisation or committee (desirable but not essential).
About the organisation
Alamein Neighbourhood & Learning (Alamein) is a neighbourhood house that provides government-funded, pre-accredited and fee-for-service adult education, community support programs, wellbeing and lifestyle programs to residents in our local community. We are in Ashburton, opposite the Alamein train station, in the City of Boroondara.
