About the role
Red Nose Day Street Fundraising
Street Fundraising has been a part of Red Nose Day for over 30 years.
Our volunteers play a crucial role in helping us raise funds and awareness by selling merchandise in public locations. This activity is perfect for corporate groups, families or friends to enjoy together.
How it works?
Street Fundraising involves volunteers working in pairs (or groups of 3-4 in some locations); selling merchandise and accepting donations from the public.
Our Red Nose Day team will provide a volunteer brief and on-day support to ensure volunteers have a fun, safe and successful shift – helping to raise money for research and support services.
We can pair teams up together and have corporate groups working in the same areas to make it more of a team building experience.
We are looking to fill a morning shift at each site which will run from approx. 7:00am – 11:00am.
We can be flexible with the shift time listed above, if you have certain availability let us know.
On the Day…
Arriving at the meeting point
Red Nose staff members will be waiting for all volunteers, generally at an indoor location to go through a quick briefing of the activity and to confirm pairs and the chosen locations for each volunteer. We will provide each group with their merchandise box and an EFTPOS machine + donation tin to accept donations.
Heading to your location
For most volunteers, your fundraising site will be pre-determined by our Red Nose staff, and once you have everything you need you will be able to make your way to the location to begin selling merchandise. If you have a preference to volunteer in a particular part of the CBD, let our team know and we will do our best to accommodate this.
During your shift
Once you are at your location, feel free to chuck on a nose and let passers-by know that it is Red Nose Day and they can purchase some fun merchandise items that will directly help support families and fund vital research into SIDS and stillbirth prevention.
Our Red Nose team can bring merchandise top ups to your location, or you can send one team member back to the volunteer hub/meeting point if you have a group of more than two.
At the end of your shift
At the completion of your shift, all volunteers will head back to the meeting point to drop off their remaining merch and donation tins before congratulating themselves on a job well done!
Things to note
- To increase volunteer safety, no cash floats will be provided. The public will be encouraged to purchase/donate via EFTPOS or pay using exact cash.
- Volunteers may leave their valuables at the meeting point if they would like. A Red Nose staff member will always be present or in the situation where they need to leave the room the location will be locked to secure all belongings.
- Street Fundraisers are not able to conduct their activity alone, you must be partnered with at least one other volunteer for the duration of your shift.
- In your teams you can challenge each other to raise the most funds of your team/group, but remember we don’t except you to approach people to make sales, let the public come to you!
Most of all, this day is about having fun – letting the public know that it is Red Nose Day and raising a little bit of money to make a difference for bereaved families and new research.
We encourage you to get into the spirit of the day in whatever way works for you!
