About the role
Our Board of Directors plays a crucial governance role for the organisation and comprises up to nine volunteer Directors, two of whom may be appointed by the Board. We are currently seeking expressions of interest to nominate in our 2023 Election of Directors from Members with skills complementary to the existing skill set of the Board to support the valuable work of The Wilderness Society, with a diversity of experience to meet its responsibilities.
The Wilderness Society Ltd performs a range of functions that support the achievement of its Purpose, goals and objectives, operating nationally with Campaigning, Organising, Communications, Membership, Fundraising and Business Operations arms that work across several locations. The Board maintains oversight of all these activities and, as leaders in the organisation, Directors work directly with the Chief Executive Officer and Collaborative Management Team.
About the organisation
The Wilderness Society is working for a future that does not rely on continued destruction of nature and our climate, but rather flourishes because of our responsible stewardship of these core life support systems. We value organisational independence and integrity.
It all started in Tasmania in the 70s with the successful campaign to stop the damming of the Franklin River. Over forty years later, the Wilderness Society is still here.
We’re here for remarkable places like the Kimberley, the Great Australian Bight and our biodiverse forests and bushlands. We’re here for endangered critters like the greater glider, swift parrot and numbat. We’re here with the power of nature-loving communities across Australia focussed on bigger-picture outcomes, such as the recently announced end to native forest logging in Victoria.
