About the role

We are looking for Committee Members to replace two long-standing Committee members who are retiring at the end of this year. Specifically we are looking for a new Secretary and Treasurer. Meetings are held online once a month (Mondays at 7.30pm for approx. two hours) and we hold an in-person AGM once a year at Yellingbo.

Secretary duties include organising our regular meetings, preparing the minutes and also managing various regulatory matters such as lodging statements with the ACNC and other regulatory bodies. The Secretary would use one of our email addresses and would receive support from the outgoing Secretary.

The Treasurer is responsible for managing the relationship with our paid bookkeeper who does most of the day-to-day work, helping us stay on top of our grants and finances, loading payments for online banking and signing off on activity statements. The Treasurer also uploads the fortnightly wages (with the support of the paid bookkeeper). We use Xero across both the nursery and our other operations (our grants and other finances). The Treasurer would use one of our email addresses and would receive support from the outgoing Treasurer. A person with a finance/accounting/bookkeeping background would be very welcome, but this is not essential.

We are also looking for Fundraising Committee members that may or may not be full members of the Committee but have a background and interest in fundraising to help us fund our operations. Grant funding is becoming more difficult and we need to improve our capacity to fundraise from our own sources. Fundraising Committee members would meet on an as needed basis and may meet more frequently when we are running various campaigns.

About the organisation

Organisation name : Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater Inc

The Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater formed in 1989 to help save the critically endangered State Bird Emblem, and its habitat, and to provide opportunities for people to engage in practical conservation efforts. The Friends were founding members of the National Recovery Program for the Helmeted Honeyeater. Our mission is to protect existing habitat and plant future habitat for the Helmeted Honeyeater and to raise awareness about the plight of the Helmeted Honeyeater and enlist broad community support for the Recovery project. Each year we engage with hundreds of community members, work with volunteers, support local schools with education, and plant thousands of indigenous plants.

We are based in Yellingbo an hour from Melbourne, and we have a wide range of volunteer activities as well as a social enterprise Indigenous Plant Nursery.

Not for Profit : Yes
