About the role

Join TASCA’s Volunteer Committee. Advocate for Australian patients and families affected by Thalassemia and Sickle Cell disease. 

Are you passionate about improving the lives of people living with Thalassaemia and Sickle cell in Australia? Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Australia (TASCA) is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our volunteer committee and help advance our mission of advocacy, education, and support. 

We are seeking an incoming secretary and general committee members. 

About TASCA:

TASCA is committed to advocating for patients and their families, raising awareness about genetic haemoglobin conditions, including Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia, and improving access to care and resources. We are a patient-centred organisation, striving to create a more informed and inclusive community.

We also provide a free education program to schools and the wider community and encourage carrier testing for haemoglobin conditions to assist with family planning decisions. TASCA aims to empower those living with a genetic haemoglobin condition to live their best life and to provide them with support each step of the way.

Roles and responsibilities

As a committee member, you’ll:

  •      Attend and actively participate in monthly committee meetings (virtual or in-person).
  •      Contribute to TASCA’s programs, including advocacy campaigns, patient support initiatives, and community events.
  •      Assist in organising awareness drives, fundraisers, or community days.
  •      Represent the voice of patients and families in shaping TASCA’s strategies.

Who can apply:

We welcome applications from individuals who:

  •      Have a personal or professional connection to thalassemia, sickle cell, or other hemoglobinopathies.
  •      Are passionate about patient advocacy and community support.
  •      Can dedicate time to volunteering and committee responsibilities.

Expertise sought:

Areas of expertise that are desirable, but not essential: 

  •      Experience in for purpose committees and governance
  •      Advocacy & member engagement.
  •      Strategy, development, leadership & visionary thinking. 
  •      Fundraising and event management.
  •      Law & legal services
  •      Grant writing, Administration, Office management.
  •      Public relations & Communications.
