About the role

Role summary
The main role of our volunteer is to help running our weekly walking group.
The walking group leader guides the group along a designated route, creating a friendly and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.

Our walking group is designed to:
– give the opportunity to our community to have access to an universal and affordable wellbeing activity with great benefits on their physical and mental health.
– boost participants to develop a regular walking habit and sense of community while connecting to nature.
– encourage social inclusion and connection.

The leader will carry out volunteer duties alongside possibly other volunteers and office staff employed by CHCC. The volunteer will also be required to undertake specific tasks as identified below.

Key tasks
These include but are not exclusive to:

• Lead a 45-60 min walk once per week.
• Welcome new and returning participants (a membership form to fill out, give them a name tag, and explain the walk of the day).
• Guide the walk and walkers in a safe approach.
• Provide friendly, inclusive, social interaction with the participants.
• Set up/pack up tables, chairs, coffee station.
• Clean up and wipe down tables, chairs, and kitchen area.
• Support Chelsea Heights Community Centre Staff if required.

Person Specification
The walking group leader will need to:
• Demonstrated positive values of integrity, accountability, reliability and working as part of a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Show compassion and empathy as the situation requires.
– Can make people feel at ease.
– Be always polite and courteous, regardless of the situation.
– Have an ability to engage with people of all ages and abilities.
• Demonstrated motivation to commit to a volunteer placement for at least a whole school term (10weeks) and weekly on Thursday 9.30am – 11.30am. Starting February 2025.

Special Conditions of Volunteering: 
• Current volunteer police to be reimbursed by Chelsea Heights Community Centre.
• Current volunteer Work with Children Check, free for volunteers.
• Up to date first aid certification (not compulsory but appreciated)
• Willing to undertake training for the role.

Volunteering at Chelsea Heights Community Centre provides opportunities for people to enhance existing skills and learn new skills, build self-esteem and confidence to enter the workforce, reduce isolation and to meet new people.
