About the role

IT & AI Strategy Consultant (Volunteer)

Are you an experienced IT strategist with a passion for helping a dementia health promotion charity leverage new technologies for greater impact? Umbrella Dementia Cafes (UDC) is seeking a skilled professional to volunteer their expertise. We need a consultant to audit and assess our current IT systems, identify opportunities for improvement and create a roadmap for scalable and cost-effective IT practices, with a special focus on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive audit of our current safety responses, our hardware, software and current IT infrastructure. Identify the problems, pain points and outdated or ineffective processes.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to improve cost-effectiveness and enable organisational scaling, including an analysis of our existing subscriptions, a CRM that’s right for us, with an overall focus on highest return on long-term investment for our non-for-profit environment. .
  • Identify potential AI use cases that align with our mission and operational needs (e.g., automating administrative tasks, enhancing data analysis, improving donor communication or optimising resource allocation).
  • Develop a framework for maximising the value of our existing software subscriptions and implementing new AI technologies.
  • Provide specific training we need to imbed the new systems in our everyday processes.
  • Work collaboratively with our small team to pilot changes to allows us to test the technology, measure its impact and learn before investing in major changes.
  • Author a detailed scope of work including IT jargon required for us to employ or recruit specific IT consultants who’ll implement the identified requirements.
  • Future proofing for ethical growth and work with CEO to write an ethical policy and organisational guidelines for how AI is used at UDC.

This is a high-impact, short-term volunteer role perfect for a professional looking to use their skills to make a tangible difference in dementia support community. You will work directly with our founder and operational team leadership to lay the foundation for a more efficient, scalable and sustainable future whereby we can support more families experiencing the challenging impact of dementia.

Organisation name : Umbrella Dementia Cafes

Umbrella Dementia Cafés (UDC) is an Australian Registered Health Promotion Charity dedicated to enhancing the well-being of individuals affected by dementia and their families. Since 2016, UDC has successfully implemented a unique dementia café model across four local government areas in Victoria, providing welcoming spaces where individuals can connect, find support, and engage in meaningful social activities. Our person-centred approach fosters safe and inclusive environments that facilitate peer interaction, shared experiences, and the development of lasting friendships. 

Umbrella Dementia Cafes aim to create positive and functional partnerships within local communities, providing education, support and mentoring to empower community leaders to offer supportive social groups, or affiliate dementia cafes, in their local area.

To extend our reach and support more people living with dementia and their families, upgrades to our communication systems is vital to the success of our organisation.
