About the Role

About us 

Lively is a not-for-profit social enterprise that connects generations, creates meaningful employment for young jobseekers and increases the connectedness and inclusion of older people in our community. We train and employ young jobseekers to provide meaningful supports that help older people live well, and engage older people to share life experience back with the young.

Our founding service is a technology help service that employs young people to help older people learn how to use new technologies to connect and communicate. Moving forward, we are currently embarking on an ambitious and exciting project to build an intergenerational home care model; employing young people to help older people with a range of home support services that help them live well and enjoy life at home.

We’re passionate about bringing fresh life and enthusiasm into the aged care sector in Australia, and are genuinely excited by the work we do each day. We’re a fun and friendly bunch, and offer a great work environment for staff and volunteers alike.

Why we need you 

We have experienced significant growth over the past 18 months, and have recently moved from a small to a medium charity with revenue over $250,000 per year. As such, we are keen to strengthen our financial management and oversight mechanisms, in order to ensure sound ongoing management of our finances (including grant funding). We are also required to provide audited financial statements to the ACNC, and for transparency purposes would like these statements to be prepared by an individual who is not involved in day-to-day financial transactions.   

The day-to-day organisational finances are currently managed by our CEO and Operations Manager, using Xero Accounting. We currently use cash accounting, with accounts reconciled on a daily basis.

Key responsibilities of the volunteer role would include: 

  • Preparing our end of financial year accounts on an accrual basis, ready for audit.
  • Casting an independent eye over our accounts on a quarterly basis, to ensure sound ongoing management of organisational finances.
  • Providing general advice to continually strengthen our approach to accounting and financial management.

About you 

Ideally, you will: 

  • Have previous experience preparing accounts for a registered Australian charity;
  • Have worked with both cash and accrual accounting;
  • Be trustworthy and diligent in your work; and
  • Be a positive, proactive and enthusiastic individual, keen to contribute your skills to a valuable social cause. 

It would be preferable for you to be able to come into our office in Fitzroy from time to time, however remote volunteering is also possible.
