Big-Hearted Women to Care for Aboriginal Women Elders on Country

Kapululangu Aboriginal Women’s Law and Culture Centre is always looking for big-hearted women to care for our remarkable Women Elders who are among the last few remaining Indigenous Australians to have grown up in the desert before they had first contact with Kartiya/Stranger society. They are the Senior Law (Ceremony) Women, Healers and Cultural Teachers of their peoples. Kapululangu is committed to enabling our Elders to continue to live in Country, and to die in Country… so that they can continue to live near their families, enjoy their Law, and pass their cultural knowledge onto their younger generations.

Kapululangu is located in the extremely remote desert community of Balgo in the south-eastern Kimberley region of Western Australia which was the last place in Australia to have contact with White society. Volunteer positions are available for up to three Indigenous or Non-Indigenous women at a time to assist us to care for our two (to four) Elders. No formal qualifications in caring are required – just the everyday commonsense that comes from living life and caring about others, and the desire to make a real difference to Aboriginal lives. This volunteer position is for women only. Minimum stay is one month. You must cover your own expenses.
