About the role
Tenants Victoria is seeking to appoint two new Board Directors. You will join a highly skilled and engaged board in driving forward our work guided by our new strategic plan. You will support achievement of our vision and contribute additional skills, experience and connections.
The Board oversees the operation of Tenants Victoria ensuring the provision of effective, high quality and innovative work to support, advocate for and represent residential tenants. It meets monthly. There are occasional additional meetings and planning sessions
Key Selection Criteria
The Board identifies the following as core skills for all directors:
- Governance and legal
– an understanding of the relevant legal and regulatory principles and frameworks and of good governance NFP practices
- Finance and Risk
– understanding and ability in financial and risk management
- Strategy and organisational planning
We are currently seeking two new directors with skills and experience from amongst one or more of the following areas (as well as the core skills above):
- Senior NFP leadership experience
- Technology/Digital transformation
- Business Development and Social Entrepreneurship
You have a long-standing personal commitment to social justice and can commit to our Vision. You are a strategic and innovative thinker and enjoy working collaboratively to support development and reform. You understand and desirably have experience in sound NFP governance and have connections with people and organisations that align with Tenants Victoria’s work. You also have excellent interpersonal communication skills.

About Tenants Victoria
Tenants Victoria is the peak body for renters in Victoria, a not- for -profit specialist community legal centre, a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity regulated by the Australian Charities and Not For Profit Commission.
It was formed more than 45 years ago to promote and protect the rights of tenants in Victoria and aims both to help individual renters in distress, and to work for legal and social change to improve conditions for renters.
Our vision is a safe, secure and affordable home for every Victorian renter. We work to achieve this by providing legal advice, information and representation to individual tenants; by supporting other community organisations to assist tenants; by our advocacy in the sector and to government, our policy work with partner organisations and by our public information and education programs.
