About the role

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer Community Visitor with Wesley Mission Queensland. We currently have Friends who would like someone to visit them right across Brisbane and the Gold Coast regions.

The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is an Australian Government-funded program established to promote links between people living in an aged care facility and in the wider community with volunteer community visitors.

The Group61 CVS program aims to enrich the quality of life of isolated older people living in their own homes – a “Friend” – who may be socially isolated or lonely – whether for social or cultural reasons or due to disability.

As part of our Group61 CVS program, we are looking for friendly people who are looking to make a difference in the lives of our community’s seniors just by spending an hour per week or fortnight visiting and being a social friend to individuals living in their own home. Wesley Mission Queensland asks for a commitment to this role for a minimum of six months to one year.

Group61 Community Visitors assist in ensuring older people in their own home remain actively engaged and inspired every day. Quality time shared with a Friend can include chatting, playing cards or board games, work on a hobby together, or discuss the local news. You might take a walk, grab a coffee in one of our onsite cafes, or do some gardening together.

Group61 Community Visitors are not involved in providing clinical or personal care to the people they visit.

This volunteering role is suitable for people who are seeking a long term volunteering commitment from six to twelve months.

Group61 is a welcoming and rewarding place to volunteer where you will meet many wonderful people and learn great new skills that may assist you both personally and professionally. There are lots of other benefits to volunteering with us as well, such as:

  • Supply and pay for any security checks required for the position
