About the role
Many areas of Australia are lucky enough to have access to a mental health consumer or peer support service. The trouble is many of these services are also governed or managed by a non-consumer person, group or organisation.
A mental health peer support or consumer-run service needs purity in line management to be known truly as a Consumer operated Service ie. governed, managed and operated by those with a lived experience. In the past, there have been some start-ups of consumer-based services or organisations where it did seem that ‘to be a consumer’ was the only requirement. I believe we have all matured well beyond this type of mistake. The transformation of CAN Mental Health in under 6 months demonstrates that it is not Rocket Science.
Like any other operation the basic requirements for success are: Governance provided by skilled people with experience and knowledge of ‘governance’ and a specific area of business Personnel with skills and qualifications in alignment with industry best practice A leader willing to work transparently and collaboratively with others Commitment to the mission or values of the organisation.
If I can get the right group of people together to truly guide a start-up effectively and transparently, the consumers of NSW and or Australia will be the winners. If you are interested in applying for a position on either the board or committee (structure yet to be decided) please address the below points in Survey Monkey.
