About the role
Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with the maintenance and improvements to our historic railway line near Ipswich, Queensland.
QPSR is Brisbane’s nearest operational heritage railway and runs steam and diesel hauled passenger services several times a month on our 7km line between Bundamba and Swanbank. QPSR is managed and run entirely by volunteers, from the steam engine drivers to station staff, and are always looking for additional help.
We are currently looking for volunteers to get involved with some of the track maintenance days planned throughout the year – these days are likely to include replacement and maintenance of track elements, working on and alongside track vehicles/plant, learning about railway maintenance and generally helping to keep the railway operational alongside others in a friendly environment!
No experience is necessary, a comprehensive induction/safety briefing and toolbox talks will be conducted on each day before starting work and experienced workers will be providing ‘on the job’ training. Due to the nature of the work, volunteers will need to be physically fit/able and will need to provide their own basic personal protective equipment (steel toe-capped boots, gloves and hi-vis orange vest/shirt).
