About the role

An experienced mechanic is required to mentor local staff of the Diocese of Wewak, PNG and help revive a once productive workshop.

Palms Australia is recruiting a suitably qualified and experienced mechanic/workshop manager to mentor local staff in the Diocese workshop for two years. The volunteer will:

  • Mentor staff in sound mechanical practice, using on-the-job training with strong emphasis on checks, care and responsibility.
  • Advise on the professional running of the operation including high levels of workshop safely and security.
  • Impart appropriate business skills and methodology to allow staff to prioritise and schedule a program of maintenance to fit the community’s needs.
  • Mentor the staff on the financial management of the workshop through realistic budgeting, quoting and proper bookkeeping.
