BELIZE | Accountant @ NGO Empowering LGBT Community | 2-3 weeks

Based in stunning Belize, our client works to improve the quality of life and access to opportunity for LGBT persons and their families ensuring a socially inclusive Belize. They are looking for an experienced financial auditor to help them train staff and prepare for audits.

The organisation is a legally registered NGO which has been engaged in numerous community-driven initiatives aimed at mobilizing, educating, informing and supporting the LGBT community and LGBT families in Belize. At their social events in their community centre, they discuss empowerment and promote education around same sex couples / family issues. They advocate to create awareness around inequality in Belize to change laws affecting the LGBT.

As part of their requirement they prepare for audits, submit annual reports to funders and to the Attorney General’s office. They are in need of a formal system to manage their income and expenses and to improve their financial capacity. You will be the first AfID volunteer on assignment at this organisation and your role will start with a review of their accounting systems, processes and controls before making and implementing recommendations based on the resources available, the skills of the team and the context where they work. You will be working with the Centre Coordinator and Members of the Board.
