Volunteer Mock Magistrates Assistant

Robert Nixon, solicitor, one of the NSW Law Society’s Volunteer Mock Magistrates, is providing  the opportunity for volunteer  University Law Students to provide him with   assistance of what amounts to a Magistrate’s Associate to assist him in performing the role of Mock Magistrate.

The successful applicant for this role will share equally with Robert, the performance  of  all aspects of his role as Mock Magistrate thereby gaining valueable experience in the process.

The duties of the Mock  Magistrate are described at page 11 of the Mock Trial Manual 2013 http://goo.gl/J09QX.

This and the manual generally should be studied carefully before enquiring further. Robert covers schools selected from the following Sydney metropolitan areas: Eastern suburbs, North Metropolitan, Inner Western, Northern Beaches, Sydney CBD, Southern, North western,  South west and western suburbs.

The sydney suburban  locations to which Robert is most frequently required to attend are:
Western Suburbs;
South Western Suburbs.

Robert is occasionally required to attend the following Sydney suburban
locations:

North Western suburbs;
Inner western suburbs;
North Metropolitan / north shore suburbs;
Northern Beaches suburbs.

Mock trials are held on weekdays (excluding school holidays) between 5 p.m.  and 9 pm at scheduled high schools.

Applicants should

1. have participated in previous mock trials when in high school;
2. be law students at any stage in their studies, other knowledge or
experience is not required;
3. have a current driver’s licence and access to a car when required;
