Music For Canberra believes in the positive social and personal benefits to be gained from learning music. We offer Canberra’s largest program of instrumental, choir, ensemble & orchestral tuition, musical experiences and workshops, and performance opportunities.

 

Opportunities are available for our members to perform at concerts and other community events including at the National Multicultural Festival, Floriade, the National Eisteddfod, and many other local festivals and events in Canberra and the surrounding regions.

 

We are an ACT Government Key Arts Organisation and registered charity.

Skilled General Manager and leader to deliver high quality, inspiring, innovative and diverse musical experiences for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds

 

About the role

 

As General Manager for Music for Canberra you will lead a not-for-profit organisation with a community focus that encourages people of all ages (starting as early as 18 months old in our ‘Music Play’ groups), all abilities (including ‘Mixed Ability’ music & drumming groups for people living with a disability) and all backgrounds to experience the benefits music can offer by taking up an instrument or singing.

 

You will be accountable to the Board for achieving the organisation’s vision, mission and goals and leading business development. With responsibility for managing overall operations, governance and budget, you will secure grants and sponsorship and establish strategic partnerships. This is a vital leadership position with a diverse team in your care that includes musical tutors, conductors, orchestra managers, office staff and volunteers. You will work closely with the Artistic Director to develop and deliver diverse programs to benefit our members and community.

 

Sound strategic thinking and strong business development acumen are essential, along with strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
