The Opportunity

AHI is at a pivotal point in its journey. With a vision to become the official professional body for the housing sector, representing 30,000 members by 2030, they are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This role is about building on their strong foundations, driving membership growth, enhancing member engagement, and leading sector capacity building initiatives.

As CEO, you will be responsible for executing AHI’s strategic plan, growing individual and organisational memberships, managing a small team of dedicated Ahi staff, and increasing their impact across Australia and New Zealand. You will work closely with the Board and committees to set and deliver on strategic priorities, engage with key stakeholders including government and sector leaders, and oversee the delivery of their diverse programs and events. You will also be instrumental in securing sponsorships for events and programs, enhancing the value AHI provides to its members and expanding its influence across the sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead AHI’s strategic direction to achieve their 2030 vision of becoming the official professional body for the housing sector.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of training, sector capacity building, and the Brighter Future Awards.
  • Enhance internal organisational structure, health, and performance.
  • Act as Company Secretary, ensuring compliance with corporate governance standards and managing board meetings and committee activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including members, government bodies, and sector leaders.
  • Represent AHI at conferences, industry events, and member meetings across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Drive sponsorship initiatives for events and programs to support and grow AHI’s activities and member benefits.

About You

You are a strategic and innovative leader with a strong track record in a membership organisation, stakeholder engagement, organisational development, and capacity building within the community or social services sector. You will be enthusiastic and engaging, with the ability to manage multiple projects and lead a team remotely.

Key Attributes

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive strategic initiatives and deliver results.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and government.
  • Proven experience in building and managing relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Financial literacy and experience in managing budgets and financial planning.
  • Understanding of learning and development, and its role in enhancing sector capacity and career development.
  • Ability to manage a volunteer-based board and committee structure.
  • Experience in securing and managing sponsorships for events and programs.
  • Strong housing sector knowledge, or ability to quickly learn about the housing sector and contribute to its growth and development.
