The Great Barrier Reef Foundation welcomes the announcement of the biggest single investment in a coral reef ecosystem anywhere in the world - a $444m partnership with the Australian Government to build the resilience of our most precious natural wonder, the Reef. The next five years are decisive for the Great Barrier Reef Foundation (GBRF). The circumstances that surround the organisation both internally and externally mean the GBRF is poised to undergo a significant uplift. The entire team is united in its desire for GBRF to rise to this occasion and be the change agent to not only stem the decline of the Great Barrier Reef but to unite funders, businesses and the community in the Reef’s pathway to recovery. For this it must be leaders in everything it does, in the projects it enables, in the way it raises money and in how it uses its voice. With the loss of almost half of the coral cover across the Reef in the past two years, the GBRF has revitalised its vision and refreshed its sense of purpose. This is a moment of truth to signal and demonstrate to everyone that there is hope for the future of the Reef and unite communities in the journey to achieve it.
