The Centre for Social Impact (CSI) is a national research and education centre dedicated to catalysing social change for a better world. We aim to catalyse change by drawing on our foundations of Research, and Education and translating knowledge, creating leaders, developing usable resources, and reaching across traditional divides to facilitate collaborations.


About the role

  • A$103-121K per annum (plus 17% employer superannuation and leave loading)
  • 3-year contract
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)
  • CSI UNSW Sydney (Kensington) office

We are seeking an experienced researcher with expertise in financial wellbeing, financial resilience and financial inclusion and exclusion, particularly of vulnerable groups and publications in leading Business or Social Science journals and who is passionate about contributing to catalysing positive social change.

The Research Fellow will take a lead role in managing and undertaking CSI’s research, evaluation and outcomes measurement related to financial inclusion, exclusion, resilience and wellbeing, as well as other projects focused on vulnerable groups. They will be responsible for building and maintaining industry relationships and attracting research funding and contracted industry projects. These objectives will help to increase the Centre’s reputation for research leadership in social impact by establishing a strong, thriving, high quality research environment.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in Economics and/or Social Sciences or related discipline
  • High-level quantitative research skills in relation to economics and financial in/exclusion, and a proven record in the use of a range of data analysis techniques; knowledge of various IT software including Stata, SPSS and Endnote.
  • The ability to obtain research funding and participate in collaborative research and educational projects.
  • Expertise in project management including management of budgets and financial information, data collection and analysis, measure and report outcomes and ability to work to agreed timelines
  • Initiative, flexibility, and an independent approach to working in an energetic team and contributing to industry funded and academic research projects.
  • Be an effective communicator with the ability to engage with industry stakeholders and develop highly productive external and internal relationships.
  • Be excited about, and committed to, the future direction of CSI, our culture and our values.
