About this opportunity

The role of Peer Project Worker and Administrator is a newly established position to support the efficient and effective delivery of Wellways programs in the Eastern and North Western Region of Melbourne. Our regional programs include Family Services, Peer and Community Education, Partners in Recovery, Consumer Directed Supports, North Fitzroy Prevention and Recovery Care and Housing and Homelessness programs.

In addition to providing administrative support to our regional programs, the Peer Project Worker and Administrator will draw upon their lived experience of mental health issues and recovery to support our Community and Peer Education program. The Peer Project Worker and Administrator will play a key identifying, training, supporting and mentoring new and existing peer facilitators. This role will also include marketing our Peer and Community Education offer and fostering partnerships with clinical and community partners who support our Peer and Community Education delivery.

This role is unique in that it requires someone with strong administration skills and a lived experience of mental health issues and recovery to support Peer and Community Educators use their own lived experience in the delivery of Peer and Community Education programs. This work is performed using the Intentional Peer Support model.

Skills & qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will possess the following:

  • A lived experience of mental health issues and recovery
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications in Social Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • An understanding of Community and Peer Education principles
  • Ability to establish effective partnerships
  • Mentoring and support skills
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills, including intermediate IT skills
  • Current and valid driver licence and ability to undertake regular travel
  • Satisfactory Police Records , Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme and Working with Children checks
  • Previous experience working within the Mental Health or Community sector is not essential, however desired
