About the role
- Fixed term part time (0.8 EFT) position for 12 months
- SCHCADS Award – Community Development Worker Level 5 (pay point subject to experience and qualifications)
Seniors Rights Victoria leads in addressing elder abuse in Victoria. As a form of family violence and stemming from attitudes of ageism in our community, elder abuse is a critical social issue, sometimes having lifelong impact on older people. This Advocate position plays a key role in our Advocacy Team and works closely with our Legal Team to deliver a multidisciplinary service to older people. Our work reflects a strong rights based approach.
We seek a suitably qualified and experienced person to:
- Provide advice, referral, short term case work and advocacy for older people seeking support
- Support the Seniors Rights Victoria telephone helpline service
- Contribute to systemic advocacy and law reform projects
- Facilitate education and training to service providers and members of the general public
Seniors Rights Victoria is a program of Council on the Ageing (COTA) Victoria, the leading not-for-profit organisation representing the interests and rights of people aged 50+.
To be successful in this positon you will have relevant qualifications and experience in the community sector, preferably working with issues relevant to older people, a strong rights-based approach, ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team, and a commitment to addressing the needs of older people.
