About the Koorie Youth Council (KYC)
The Koorie Youth Council (KYC) is the representative body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in Victoria. Led by an Executive of 15 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and our state-wide members, KYC values the diversity and strength of young people as decision-makers. KYC advocates to government and community to advance the rights and representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. By hosting events like the annual Koorie Youth Summit, KYC brings Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people together to amplify their voices for social change.
The KYC is auspiced by the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria.

About the role
Bring creative and energetic communications to our team, amplifying the voices of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people in community engagement and advocacy.
We’re looking for a skilled team member who shares our passion for youth participation, collaboration and connecting with community and culture.
Hours: 22.8 hours per week (three days per week)
Remuneration: $33.60 per hour, classified under SCHCADS Award at Employment Level 4 (YACVic pays above award rates).
Status: 12 month contract, possibility of extension subject to funding.
Location: Based in Melbourne CBD
About the role
The KYC Communications Officer is a new role within KYC, responsible for developing and monitoring strategic and effective content to engage young people, community, the youth sector and government about KYC’s activities and advocacy including projects like Ngaga-dji and the Koorie Youth Summit.
You will work in a fast paced environment, be passionate about using strengths based language and be skilled at managing a number of tasks at the same time.
About the candidate
We are looking for someone who is flexible, motivated and willing to play an active part in a collaborative and close-knit team.
You will have:
- A strong understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, with a demonstrated knowledge of community strengths and issues, particularly those that relate to young people
- A can-do attitude with a great team-focused work ethic
- A willingness to learn and high attention to detail
- Experience in writing and editing content for a range of stakeholders including young people, communities and decision-makers
- A friendly, confident personality with a sense of humour
- Initiative, seeing what needs to be done before being asked
